英大手レーベルである〈XL Recordings〉の創設者、Richard Russellが新たなコラボレート・プロジェクト＝Everything Is Recordedを発足し、デビューEP『Close But Not Quite』をサプライズ・リリースした。
本作『Close But Not Quite』は、Richard Russellがウェスト・ロンドンに構えるスタジオであり、様々なボーカリストやミュージシャンが毎日のように集うクリエイティブな空間だというThe Copper Houseでのコラボや実験の一部をまとめたものであり、Sampha、Giggs、Obongjayar、Tic、Warren Ellis、Infinite、Mela Murder、Green Gartside、Baluji Shrivastavといった幅広いアーティストがフィーチャーされている。
そんな本作の冒頭を飾るタイトル・トラックであり、Curtis Mayfieldの名曲「The Makings Of You」をサンプリングしたトラックに、Smphaをゲスト・ボーカルに迎えた「Close But Not Quite」が公開されている。
その他、本作にはRichard RussellがプロデュースしたGil Scott-Heronの「Me and the Devil」を再構築したトラックや、ナイジェリア出身で現在はUKを拠点に活動するニュー・カマー、ObongjayarとNick Cave & The Bad SeedsやDirty Three で活躍するWarren Ellisがコラボレートするなど、全トラックで想像を超えるコラボレーションが展開する。
